Frequently Asked Questions
Eyelash Extensions:
What are eyelash extensions?
Professional eyelash extensions are bonded using a cosmetic or "medical" grade cyanoacrylate based adhesive.
Cyanoacrylate adhesives are a skin, eye and mucus membrane irritant so professionals must take necessary caution.
Eyelash extensions should be in single form and feature very natural characteristics. Those applying the extensions should be professionally trained in order to protect the eye and to prevent the lashes from shedding prematurely.
The process of application is different for consumer eyelash products. It’s important to be professionally trained superglueing a persons eyelashes together.
What are the benefits?
Eyelash extensions have a natural look and feel.
The procedure is relaxing. Most clients fall asleep.
They're easy to maintain. They're semi-permanent, water-resistant and there's no need to apply mascara or any other product to your eyelashes every day.
Eyelash extensions can be uniquely customized to enhance natural features and give a more youthful appearance.
They provide quick gratification; a full set takes approximately 2-4 hours to apply and touch-ups take 30 minutes to an hour to apply.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
If it’s your first time at Naturá, please arrive 15 minutes prior to the appointment to allow enough time to complete our consent form and to allow sufficient time to take before pictures.
Arrive without eye makeup, mascara or oil based lotion around the eye area.
If you wear contact lenses, please bring a contact lens case and saline solution in order to remove your contact lenses for the procedure.
How do I care for my eyelash extensions?
Don’t wet eyelashes for 24-48 hours
Avoid swimming, saunas or steam rooms
If you swim, protect your lashes from chlorine and saltwater
Avoid oil-based eye products
Avoid waterproof makeup products and do not curl, perm, or tint your lashes
Avoid pulling lashes or rubbing eyes
Avoid cotton swaps or cotton balls
Sleep on your back
Use a clean lash brush or spoolie to gently brush your lashes daily to keep them looking neat and separated.
You should be able to wash your eyelashes about 48 hours after your appointment. How often you wash your extensions may depend on how oily your eyelid skin tends to be and what kind of activities you do. The average person should wash their eyelash extensions every 2-3 days.
Do not attempt to remove your lash extensions on your own. If necessary they should be professionally removed.
Schedule follow up appointments every 1-3 weeks
If you experience discomfort, irritation, or notice significant lash loss, contact your lash technician for advice.
It’s my first time getting lash extensions. What should I expect?
Your first eyelash extension appointment can take anywhere from an hour and a half to three hours, depending on the style of lashes you're having done. It may sound like a long time, but remember that we're applying the lash extensions one by one to each one of your natural lashes.
Threading:
What are the benefits?
Threading allows for precise control, making it an ideal choice for shaping eyebrows and removing fine facial hair.
Threading is gentle on the skin and typically causes less irritation than other methods like waxing or tweezing. It's less likely to result in redness, bumps, or ingrown hairs.
Threading doesn't involve the use of chemicals or hot wax, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or burns.
Threading is suitable for people with sensitive skin who may be prone to irritation or allergies from other hair removal methods.
Results from threading can last several weeks, similar to waxing, as it removes hair from the root.
Threading is typically a quick process, making it convenient for those with busy schedules.
Threading is less likely to cause skin sagging or brow drooping compared to some forms of waxing.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
If it’s your first time at Naturá, please arrive 15 minutes prior to the appointment to allow enough time to complete our consent form and to allow sufficient time to take before pictures.
Set your appointment during a time when you won't feel rushed. Facial threading can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the areas being treated.
For effective threading, your hair needs to be long enough to grasp. Aim for about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of hair length, which typically takes two to three weeks of growth.
Wash your face thoroughly before your appointment to remove any makeup, dirt, or oils. Clean skin helps the technician see the hair clearly and allows for a smoother threading process.
Limit sun exposure or tanning before your appointment. Sunburned or heavily tanned skin can be more sensitive during threading.
If you're concerned about discomfort, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever (e.g., ibuprofen) 30 minutes before your appointment. This may help reduce any pain or redness.
When you arrive at your appointment, communicate your preferences and any specific areas you'd like to have threaded with your technician. Discuss the shape and thickness you desire for eyebrow threading.
During the appointment, try to stay relaxed and keep your face as still as possible. A relaxed facial expression helps the technician work more efficiently.
How do I care for my skin after my threading appointment?
For the first 24 hours after threading, gently clean the treated area with a mild, alcohol-free cleanser. Avoid using harsh soaps or exfoliants.
Refrain from touching the threaded area with your hands to prevent the introduction of bacteria.
Avoid applying makeup to the threaded area for at least 4-6 hours post-treatment. This allows the skin to recover without interference.
Protect the threaded area from direct sunlight for at least 24 hours. If you must go out in the sun, use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Avoid strenuous exercise and steam rooms/saunas for at least 24 hours as sweating can irritate the skin.
Avoid hot baths, hot showers, and hot tubs for 24 hours as they can cause redness and irritation.
If you experience redness or mild swelling, you can apply a cold compress to soothe the area. Be sure to use a clean cloth.
After 24 hours, you can use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer on the threaded area to prevent dryness.
Do not use tweezers or wax on the threaded area between appointments, as it can disrupt the threading process.
Refrain from using products that contain strong chemicals or acids on the threaded area, as they can cause irritation.
Continue your regular skincare routine but be gentle when applying products around the threaded area.
If you experience any unusual or severe reactions, such as excessive redness, swelling, or infection, contact your threading specialist or a dermatologist for guidance.
Schedule follow-ups based on your hair growth.
